A recent research from the Danish Center for Health Services Research at Aalborg University took up atrial fibrillation and conducted multiple studies regarding the severe heart disease and the complications it poses. During the research found that the number of people suffering from atrial fibrillation has recently increased from one person out of four to one out of three. This is a very significant increases which raises questions as to why it is increasing and what can be done to prevent it.

What is atrial fibrillation? It is also called irregular heartbeat and it is exactly what it sounds like. This is a severe cardiovascular condition which in recent times has become widespread. According to the report published in SciTechDaily, Denmark has about 20,000 new cases identified annually which is a huge number. The study was published in the Journal the British Medical Journal (BMJ).

How Dangerous Is This Condition?

Atrial fibrillation is when a persons heartbeat is very rapid and not even. There is a lack of coordination between the upper and lower ventricles or chambers of the heart. This uneven heartbeat can lead to many complications like blood clots in the heart which in turn will lead to diseases related to the cardiovascular system. How dangerous can be the repercussions of irregular heartbeat?

Firstly, this condition may lead to stroke or heart failure. According to the study, almost one out of five people experience stroke due to this condition. Th risk of this has also increased over the past few years.

Almost 2 out of 5 people may experience heart failure which is again fatal. The risk of heart failure has also gone up recently and this is also one of the most complicated health problems. The risk fo heart failure is also twice as high as getting a stroke due to atrial fibrillation.

The experts in the study notes, "That the risk of heart failure after atrial fibrillation is so high is the most surprising finding. Heart failure after atrial fibrillation is associated with a poor prognosis, and every third with atrial fibrillation dies of heart failure. Therefore, it is also crucial that action is taken."
