Here s when your cardiologist might recommend angiography.
Angioplasty or bypass surgery -- which one is opted when?
If you fall undergo any one of the above three groups, you should undergo an angiography. Depending upon the number of blocks and the percentage of blockage, your doctor might recommend whether you need to undergo an angioplasty or bypass surgery or neither. If the blockage is more than 70% in one or two places in the artery, then you have to undergo angioplasty. If the blockage is less than 70%, then your doctor might recommend you to continue medications and make few lifestyle changes like diet and exercise. In addition to this, you have to control the risk factors like smoking, tobacco, high blood pressure and diabetes. If there are multiple blockages found in three major arteries that supply blood to the heart, and all three branches are having multiple blockages which are more than 70%, then you need to undergo bypass surgery.
