A tangy zesty home remedy for hypertension

Is life throwing lemons at you? Don t throw them back. Make lime juice and control your blood pressure instead. Blood pressure level is usually high during winters. For people already suffering from high blood pressure or on the border line, you need to work harder to keep the level in check. Since you cannot increase the dosage of medicines during one particular season, why not opt for natural remedies that can help reduce or control your blood pressure. Lemons are one such effective home remedy, suggests Dr. Debjani Banerjee, Consultant-Nutrition & Dietetics PSRI Hospital New Delhi. Lemon is one of the best remedies for hypertension. It makes the blood vessels soft and flexible, lowering the blood pressure level. Lemon contains high amounts of Vitamin B, which is why regular consumption of lemon prevents heart failure. High triglyceride level can affect the liver and lead to weight gain, which may affect your blood pressure. Lemon juice is known to lower the triglyceride level and is thus beneficial for individuals suffering from hypertension. Lemon juice also lowers cholesterol. It is a mild diuretic and hence drinking lemon juice regularly is advisable.

If you are hypertensive, drinking fresh lemon juice three-four times a day can be beneficial. Warm water and lime have several benefits. You can also drink a glass of it every morning on empty stomach for better results. Avoid adding sugar or salt to your lemon juice or water. Lemons have a host of health benefits and hence should be a part of your daily diet.
