Keeping your cool at work is quite a challenge for most people. That unreasonable demand or email from the client, the high expectations and stringent deadlines from the boss, the colleague who constantly tries to pull you down or the chatter box co-worker who gets on your nerves. There are umpteen reasons to lose your cool at work but it isn t good for your health and image. So here are 7 simple ways to deal with anger and keep calm at your workplace:
Eat the right foods: Food helps elevate your mood. Certain foods also help you calm down and keep stress at bay. Munch on fresh fruits and raw vegetables, chocolate or green tea to control your anger. Here are some other foods that help you calm down.
Don t take everything seriously: You don t need to take things to heart all the time. Also, this may just be a temporary thing. People act nasty or behave inappropriately in the heat of the moment. Don t let that spoil your day so stop being very serious.
Meditate or exercise: If you are extremely irritated by someone sitting near or around you, take a stroll. Opt for some light exercises or practice deep breathing, yoga or meditation for a few minutes every day. Exercise will rejuvenate and refresh you. Here s how you can beat stress and anxiety through exercise.
Watch fun videos: Distract yourself with a dose of laughter. On a rough day at work, take 5-10 minutes out and watch some fun videos. Laughter is the perfect medicine for anger and frustration too.
Listen to music: The best way to calm yourself is good music. Plug in your ear phones and play some soft melodies that break your concentration either. Play instrumental music. Read: 10 anti-stress quotes to help you calm down.
Change of perspective: Just because a colleague or senior gets on your nerves each time, don t get frustrated with every action. Think from their perspective and try to see if their action or words are justified. It will certainly help you cool down.
Talk to a friend: instead of being impolite or rude and picking a fight with the colleague who s got you angry, speak to a friend on phone or a reliable co-worker and vent out your anger. Discussing the matter will cool your anger and help you concentrate on work.
