There are a number of reasons one might feel nauseous. Right from an upset stomach, motion sickness to morning sickness, nausea can also be a common symptom of a more grave condition. While you could have medication to help relieve the symptoms, there are some natural remedies that can help beat the symptom. Here are 6 home remedies for nausea that really work.

1. Jeera and honey: Jeera is a very potent carmative agent and is great to improve digestion. Also, honey helps calm the stomach lining and gets rid of the infection that might have caused the vomiting.

Take about a spoonful of raw jeera, and crush it into a fine powder. Now add this powder to one teaspoon of honey and eat this mixture three times a day for effective relief. If you are vomiting frequently, have this mixture once every three hours. Make sure you do not administer this medicine more than six times in a day as it can have an adverse effect.

Ginger, cardamom, tulsi and aniseeds mix: According to Dr Girija Khanna, author of All About Herbal remedies, these spices when mixed together work as a great instant remedy against nausea and vomiting. Ginger, cardamom and aniseed have anti-emetic and carmative properties that help improve digestion and calm the lining of the stomach. Tulsi on the other hand has antibacterial properties that help the stomach heal and gets rid of the infection.

Tip for use: Boil a glass of water add a few pieces of ginger, one cardamom, a few tulsi leaves and some saunf. Boil them well and when the colour of the water changes switch off the gas and allow the water to cool. Have this three times a day.

3. Lime juice: Lemons are a great remedy for nausea and vomiting as they help improve digestion and supply you with essential vitamins that you might have lost. Apart from that the citric smell of lemon juice helps relieve nausea thereby helping you feel much more comfortable.

Tip for use:

Tip #1: Cut a piece of lemon squeeze a bit so that a little bit of its juice is release. Now sprinkle some salt on the piece of lemon. Now you can suck on the piece of lemon for effective relief.

Tip #2: Another great remedy is to add the rind of a lemon to some boiling water with cardamom, tulsi leaves and saunf. Drink this mixture thrice a day for relief.

4. Cloves and honey: According to Dr Girija Khanna the anaesthetic properties of cloves numbs the walls of the digestive tract and stops the vomiting reflex of the stomach. Also, both cloves and honey have anti-bacterial properties that help fight off infection causing bacteria and improve digestion.

Tip for use: Dry roast a few cloves, powder them and mix it with a teaspoon of honey. Lick this mixture slowly to help stop vomiting.

5. Curry leaves: According to Ayurvedic principles not only does kadi patta have carmative properties but it also has mild laxative properties that not only help the stomach get rid of unwanted waste but also rids the body of ama (or toxic waste) and balances out the pitta levels in the body. All these properties put together make kadi patta a perfect remedy for nausea and vomitting. According to Dr HK Bhakru, author of the book Herbs that heal, kadi patta, is very effective in nausea and vomiting due to indigestion and morning sickness.

Tip for use: Crush a few curry leaves and extract their juice. Now add some lime juice and sugar to make a table spoon of the mixture. Have this juice whenever you feel nauseous.

6. Mint leaves: The menthol present in pudina acts on the smooth muscles of the stomach and helps by increasing the amount of digestive enzymes produced, therefore improves digestion. It helps the muscles in the stomach relax and therefore helps relives nausea and vomiting.

Tip for use: Crush a few fresh pudina leaves and add them to a pot of boiling water. Once the water is a concentrated mixture, add some honey to the mix andsip on this decoction three times a day.
