If you are dependent on insulin there is not much you can do, however with pumps you can be sure to manage your condition better than by using injections. Here are a few reasons for the same.
Pumps help to control A1c levels
People who use insulin pumps have lower A1c levels a measure of blood sugar control over time than those who take multiple daily injections daily. This is because pumps insulin pumps deliver insulin more accurately than pens. Slow, steady release of insulin can help to control diabetes better than receiving a shot of insulin in one go.
Pumps help reduce hypoglycemic episodes
People who use pumps experience fewer episodes of hypoglycemia because the insulin stays in the system for about 10 to 18 hours and helps the body to use blood glucose slowly and steadily. Hence, there are few episodes of a dip in the blood sugar level after using pumps.
Pumps need fewer infusions than pen
If you have to use insulin pens thrice a day, or around 1460 needle pricks every year, you may want to switch to pumps because you might need to use it on alternate days, say about 156 insertions in a year, according to a study published in the Diabetology journal.
Pumps are more easy to use
You can adjust your insulin levels and keep it at your side. While you may be able to keep pens by your side as well, pumps just make it easier because you don't have to manually adjust it like a pen.
