Selena Gomez is one of the most trolled celebrities in the world. She has often been mercilessly criticised for her weight and appearance, things that she has no control over. The singer and actor has always made it a point to clap-back at her critics with a smart response, but she is a human being at the end of the day, and her feelings have been hurt. Not to mention the fact that constant trolling has affected her emotionally and mentally, too. The 'Only Murders In The Building' star, while appearing on the March 24 episode of the 'On Purpose with Jay Shetty Podcast' along with her fianc Benny Blanco, talked about body image issues, and how she gets "a tad bitter" when the topic of her weight takes the centrestage in a conversation. The 32-year-old also pointed out that insensitive comments are mostly directed at women, and "no one cares about these kinds of things with men".

"...this isn't news to anybody that obviously women have a lot more intense feelings from their appearance," Gomez was mentioned as saying on the podcast. "When I get prepared for an event, 90 per cent of the time I'm just like, 'I just hope I can take the picture and sit down'," she added. According to the singer, over the years she has tried to not look at the comments made on the internet. "So many different things that come up in my face, that I can't help but see. I fall victim to looking at things," she regretted, underscoring the fact that criticism about her appearance is always relentless, and she cannot ignore them all the time.

When talking about her weight, Gomez purportedly told the host: "Everyone just has something to say and it is really making me sad and... Not even sad because, I am not a victim, everyone. I just think [it has] made me a tad bitter and I feel really guilty for saying that but it is true."

The singer suffers from a chronic autoimmune disorder called lupus, about which she has extensively talked in the past, so as to raise awareness. According to her, the medication that she takes to manage this condition has caused some weight fluctuations.

"I would rather be healthy and take care of myself. My medications are important, and I believe that they are what helps me. [I am] not a model, never will be. And I think they are awesome, mind you. I'm just definitely not that," Gomez purportedly said on the podcast.

Elsewhere during the interview, the singer also talked about the downside of social media, and how it affects a person mentally. Interestingly, Gomez does not have any social media on her phone, even though she has a verified account on Instagram. "I am human and sometimes I read things. But I do, most of the time, ignore everything. I do not have anything on my phone at that moment. So, there are ways to combat it... I understand the power of what social media is. It's just tricky," she stated.

In the past, many celebrities have talked about the perils of social media and how it impacts impressionable minds -- Gomez being one of them. The comments left under a photo or a video can often be distasteful. Evidently, not even celebrities are spared. But Gomez has been prioritising her personal life and health, trying to stay as far away from critics as possible.

We love her rawness and her candidness!
