Go out in the sub to boost seretoninHappiness is a choice, but it's also a state of mind. You can't feel happy unless the level of serotonin in your brain is well regulated. Serotonin is a substance (neurotransmitter) that transmits signals or messages from one brain cell (neuron) to the other. And this relay of signal, brought about by serotonin, determines your mood or how you feel throughout the day. Here's a tip that can help you boost your serotonin level naturally -- get some sun!

  • Studies have shown a positive correlation between production of serotonin and the duration of exposure to sunlight in the daytime. Although, exposure to sunlight between 11 am to 3 pm should be avoided, you can go out for a walk or a jog in the morning, between 8 and 9. In fact, exposure to bright light is an effective treatment for seasonal depression.
  • Sunlight coupled with exercise is even more effective because it generates more endorphins that help serotonin formation in the body.
