This is a task in a world that never stops moving, where notifications ping constantly, and the pressures of daily life pile up. Yet, despite the chaos surrounding us, it is still possible to carve out moments of calm and, more importantly, sustain that peace in the long term. Mindfulness, the simple practice of being present, offers a way to navigate the noise and reconnect with our inner selves.

One Of The Most Accessible Tools For Achieving Mindfulness Is The Breath

It's easy to overlook, but your breath is always with you, and it's one of the quickest ways to anchor yourself in the present moment. When stress begins to build or your mind starts to race, pause and take a few slow, deep breaths. With each breath, focus on the sensations of the air entering and leaving your body. You don't need to change anything about your breath; pay attention. Raman Mittal, Meditation Teacher & Co-Founder of Idanim, shares that this simple act can help you escape the whirlwind of thoughts and create a moment of stillness.

  1. It doesn't require a special place or time you can do it anywhere, whether in a quiet corner or on a busy train. It's an effective way to regain control of your mind and emotions, no matter what's happening around you.
  2. While meditation is often seen as a formal practice, mindfulness can be woven into everyday life. Take eating, for example. How usually do we rush through meals, distracted by our phones or thoughts about the day ahead? Instead, try to savour your food notice the colours, textures, and flavours. Pay attention to the act of eating without multitasking. This might sound simple, but it's a powerful way to practice mindfulness in a world that encourages constant distraction.
  3. Mindfulness can also be brought into our interactions with others. Whether conversing with a friend or listening to a colleague, genuinely focus on the person in front of you. Put aside your thoughts and worries, or reply and listen entirely. This enriches your relationships and creates moments of peace amidst the noise.
  4. Another essential practice for cultivating inner peace is gratitude. It's easy to get bogged down in what's going wrong or what we don't have, but shifting focus to what is going well can change our perspective. It could be the warmth of the sun, a good cup of coffee, or a kind word from a friend.
