Many cosmetologists and facial surgeons are receiving more requests of facial hair transplant from men aged 25 to 35 years of age than before. Most of these requests are to get a perfect beard and moustache that contours the face and promises killer looks. Speaking to us Dr Vinod Vij, Cosmetic Surgeon, Navi Mumbai, stated that he receives at least five to six patients in a month who come with particular pictures of stars or sportsperson and demand a certain look. He confirms that there is a 25 percent rise in facial hair transplant in the past few months. Here are seven reasons why men with bread make the perfect boy friend.
Why choose a facial hair transplant instead of getting a beard by shaving?
Dr Vij: Most men and youngsters these days are particular about their looks and aesthetically aware of their facial quotient. But not everyone has the proper density desired for those look. Or, they may have spots or scars in some areas and no hair at all. All these factors need to be considered before we create such looks.
How is a facial hair transplant done?
Dr Vij: Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a process wherein hair from the beard or scalp is taken and transplanted. First, the transplant area is cleaned and numbed with local anaesthesia. Follicular units are harvested with 0.9 or 0.8 mm punches and inserted in pre-formed slits on the recipient area (beard or moustache). This process takes 4 or 5 hours based on the density and may at times require more than a couple of sessions. Those who only wish to transplant a moustache, then follicular units from beard are taken and those who want a beard, follicular units from the scalp are taken. The result can only be gauged after six or seven months.
Is there any post care treatment one needs to follow?
Dr Vij: Post hair transplant, you can not apply anything or shave the beard or the moustache for two weeks. But after two months of the transplant, one can shave the areas where he doesn t want the hair to grow. It takes around six or seven months to get the desired look and density one aims for. In 95 percent of cases, the results have been positive.
Are there any side effects of the procedure?
Dr Vij: There are hardly any risks involved with this process so even youngsters go for it without any worry. If you follow the post transplant care tips given by the doctor there isn t much to worry about. The only thing that can go wrong is you might not get the desired density or the look you are aiming for which can also be reversed with a redo procedure.
