It's time to gear up for the winter season and look your 'beautiful best' without having to succumb to the usual winter woes. Here is a complete guide for your make-up, clothing and style, along with all that you need to know to look winter-ready this season:

Prep the skin

winter care

  • Choose your skincare products right before you begin with anything else. R.S. Mishra, consultant of dermatology Moolchand Medcity (New Delhi), says that cleansers should be chosen as per the skin type.
  • An essential skin-prep is to be done with moisturising the face and body. Those with dry skin could use cream-based moisturizers while those with oily skin can use lotion-based ones. As for toners, non-alcoholic toners are best preferred.
  • A sunscreen is of great use even during winters. It s an ideal skin-protectant and should not be skipped.
  • This season commonly causes our lips to turn dry and chapped. Use a lip balm with moisturising properties and SPF 15 (at least).

Eye make-up

shimmery eye shadow

  • According to make-up and beauty expert at Oriflame, India, Aakriti Kochar, It s time to wear on that sleek black eye liner to get that perfect cat s eye look.'
  • For a glamorous look as Aakriti suggests, 'The darkened and smudged eyes with a tinge of gold, bronze and taupe metallic shimmers would give your eyes a warm evening look.'
  • Some mascara would do just great for voluminous eye lashes. For the eye brows, use a dark brown pencil/shadow to groom and define them well.
  • Purple and fresh blue are colors for some stunning eye make-up this season. Just subtly blend in the preferred shades on the eye socket.

Lips

red wine lips

  • Aakriti advises, 'A high-impact lip color like one of those in red wine hues and pink semi-stains continue to be in. Wear these lip colors along with a lip liner of the matching shade which would complete the look even with a minimal face make up.'
  • Berry-stained lips in a velvety finish look sultry and stylish.

Hair

side swept hair

  • Aakriti says, 'During those chilly winter evenings, style your hair in glossy waves or braids to get a messy and warm look. Experiment with fishtail braids, messy waves, curls, side pony tails, and side wispy bangs.' Here are some hairstyles for the party season.

Complete look

make-up look

  • As for easy and practical looks there are some tricks that always work. Aakriti says, 'Softly contoured eyes and cheeks with loud lips are the focus this winter. Nude pearl eye shadow will add to your look.'
  • This party look just never fails. Aakriti explains, 'One can also experiment with rich burgundy or magenta lip colors along with groomed brows and a thin black eye liner close to the upper eye rim.'

For work

winter make-up for work

  • Stick to a minimalist look at work. Aakriti says,'Opt for berry-stained lips with simply sharp and groomed eye-brows.'
  • Aakriti suggests, 'For important meetings, conferences or business dinners, one can go for dark berry lips with nude eyes. Clean skin, and some slight definition on the cheeks with perfect contouring could work well.'

From work to play

party make-up

  • Transform your look from minimalist to the party style by just throwing some focus on the lips with red wine hues and pink semi-stains.
  • Aakriti suggests a quick fix - for that extended black cat s eye use an extra dark eye-liner and stick to subtle lips with a soft contour/bronzer.
  • If you want only your eyes to be highlighted then use a metallic indigo pigment, right on the centre of your eyelids. Create a smoky effect by using dark brown or black eyeshadow on the outer contour of the eyes.

Get the style right

winter wear

  • Apart from the make-up it s important to dress well and right for the season. Celebrity stylist Shreeja Rajgopal says, It's the end of the year which means it's definitely the party season. Black is so done with, orange and burgundy for me are the colours this season.
  • It is not much of a task to look stylish in casual wear during winters. Shreeja advises, A good fitted pair of skinny denims, an over sized tee shirt paired with comfortable flats can complete your look.'
  • In a professional environment you got to keep yourself warm in your formal attire. Shreeja advises, One can team a sweater on top of a shirt and pull out the collars which gives it the formal touch. Or opt for a polo full sleeves top paired with formal pants and pointed ballerinas for an ideal office wear look. Here is how you can dress to impress at work.
  • To stay warm, Shreeja says, One cannot really layer too much but can opt for over sized cardigans or thin layered coats on top of almost anything. It goes with denims and a casual tee, dresses, skirts etc. Here is how you can flaunt your curves in knit-wear.
