I ve heard and read about serums on TV and in magazines and I want to know more about them. Are they good for the skin? Should I start using one?

Explains Dr Jaishree Sharad in her book Skin Talks that serums are essentially products that are water-based and contain vitamins, antioxidants, anti-ageing ingredients and more. But they are very light on the skin and do not really moisturise your skin.

According to Dr. Jaishree, people who have oily or acne-prone skin should use serums as they have a non-greasy formula that is easily absorbed into the skin.

She also advises using about 2-4 drops for the whole face and applying it when your face is dry. You can use it before make-up. But if you have dry or mature skin, you should opt for thick moisturisers and creams instead of serums.

There are several brands that offer serums. Here are a few of them:

  • Olay
  • Lakme
  • Neutrogena
  • Pond s
  • L Oreal
