You may have heard strong arguments for both sides -- keeping the bra on and taking it off in the night. There are theories that educate about the pros and cons of wearing bras throughout the night. Here, we try and give you a comprehensive list of things you should consider while deciding what's good for you.

What bras do?

Prolong firmness

The longer you wear a bra on, the longer your breasts are held up and supported. When your bra is off you for 8 hours, you will wake up to see your breasts hanging lower. This also means that bras don't reverse drooping in any way.

Delay sagging

Unlike what people usually think, bras don't completely stop the natural process of sagging; bras only help delay this process and keep it firmer for long.

Can keep sleep lines away

When you lie down on your stomach or sideways, your body weight is on your breasts which may result in some pressure and eventually, sleep lines to appear on them. Wearing a bra may keep a tab on the ageing process by avoiding the excess pressure on them.

Why do you need the bra on?

For bigger cup sizes

Women with smaller cup sizes, A or B, can skip wearing a bra through the night, but those who have a heavy bust should wear one. Heavier breasts need more support which the bra provides. Due to gradual increase in size, pregnant women may find their breasts heavy or uncomfortable at night. In this case, a comfortable fit is very important. Here is how you can ensure your bra lasts you longer.

In case of pain

Sometimes you may feel some pain in your breasts, due to their weight; in this case it s safe to just keep it on at night as well.

What is a comfortable option?

Sports bra

A sports bra provides additional support to breasts. These are sturdier than typical bras; they reduce breast movement and ease discomfort. Sports bras can be worn to reduce pain and physical discomfort caused by breast movement. This is a good option for heavy breasts too. Here is how you chose the right sports bra.

What you need to keep in mind?

Avoid tight bras

The need for firmness and support doesn t however mean you should subject yourself unnecessarily to extremely tight and uneasy bras. Doing this would stop circulation around that area and may even change the physiology of the breasts. Here is how you can chose the right bra.

Choose the right fabric

Sleeping in a synthetic bra can raise the temperature of your breast tissue to 37 degrees or slightly more and a restrictive bra can heighten this rise even more.To prevent any risk, pick out a correct-fitting bra that is made in soft, breathable cotton.

Contrary to news doing the rounds, wearing a bra at night has no association or is not related to breast cancer. It does not increase the risk of postmenopausal breast cancer. Read here to know more on this.
