pimplesPimples no one wants to have them and more often than not, you will find one on your face when there is something important coming up, that you need to look your best for. While these are one-off instances which can be dealt with more easily, many women and even men, face the wrath of pimples on a regular basis. If you too face the same problem, here are tips to help keep pimples at bay, as recommended by skincare expert Dr Jaishree Sharad.

Use a good face wash: Wash your face with an anti-bacterial face wash at least 2-3 times a day. This will help your skin get rid of any dirt and bacteria and will prevent the occurrence of pimples. Washing your face once in the morning, once in the noon or evening and once before bed is a good routine to follow. Pick a face wash with salicylic acid in it.

Eat more citrus fruits: Apart from following a good skincare regimen, it is also important to eat healthy, as your skin reflects what you eat. Increase the intake of citrus fruits such as oranges, grapes, lime and lemon and other food stuffs that are high in vitamin C and zinc. These will make sure your skin is in good shape internally. Vitamin C will also prevent your skin from ageing too quickly due to the presence of antioxidants.

Drink plenty of water: This is a no-brainer. Water helps keep the skin looking radiant and glowing by flushing out all the toxins from it. If your skin is prone to pimples, make sure you drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day. This will help keep your skin stay hydrated and prevent the build-up of bacteria.

Do not squeeze blackheads: Do not pick or squeeze blackheads as this causes larger pimples, infections, pigmentation and scarring. Even if you have a pimple, do not pop it. This will result in a dark spot in that area. If you have blackheads, go to a professional who can remove them correctly.

Avoid oily cosmetics: If your skin is prone to pimples, it is likely that you have over-active sebaceous glands and oily skin type. Using oily or creamy cosmetics on this skin will just aggravate the condition. Opt for light formulations and make sure you remove it before sleeping.

Minimise oil application: Do not apply excessive hair oil if you have acne over the forehead. This is because, your skin is already oily and more oil on the skin or on existing pimples can worsen the problem as it will further block the pores and lead to more pimples.
