8 things your massage therapist at the spa wants you to know

A visit to the spa is one of the most relaxing things in life. Who doesn't look forward to it! If you are a first timer, here are some tips for choosing the right spa. Read up on how to choose the right massage. It is important to prep yourself before a spa visit to make the most of your experience. Owner of Khoobsurat Salon and Spa, Delhi and makeup artist Pooja Goel shares a list of things that ll prepare you for your spa visit -

  1. Light meals - Don t eat a heavy meal before your visit. Avoid caffeine and alcohol completely. These things can make it difficult for you to relax and enjoy the therapy. Also, certain types of massages help release gases from the body and you certainly don t want to turn your therapy room into a gas chamber! Here are 6 home remedies for gas that you can try.
  2. Pack some food - If you think you ll be super hungry after the light meal, carry a low-calorie snack or fruit along. So that you can eat it post your visit.
  3. Go clean - A warm water shower before the massage is a must. So don t leave home without it. It s polite to not turn up sweaty before the session. Hot water also helps open up pores for penetration of the oils and relaxes muscles further. Read: Hot water bath vs cold water which is healthier?
  4. Be comfortable - If you are shy of getting undressed completely during a massage, you can discuss it with your masseur. They can adapt the techniques according to your comfort.
  5. Don t bear the pain - A lot of clients are shy of asking their therapists to increase or lower the pressure during a massage. Remember, the pressure can be adjusted. It won t affect the final outcome in any way. Feeling relaxed is the main aim of this visit.
  6. Stretch and flex - Light stretching exercises right before your session will be helpful especially if you lead a sedentary lifestyle. It will also release all the tension from your stiff body. You can try these stretching exercises.
  7. Relax mode on - Go with an open mind and surrender yourself to the therapist. If your mind constantly thinks if the masseur is covering all the points on your body or if she has massaged a few minutes more on one side, you ll never come out satisfied and happy. These treatments are therapeutic and relaxing.
  8. Go easy Post a massage session, don t engage in strenuous activities. The body is in a state of rest and let it enjoy that. Doing strenuous activities immediately after a massage might make you feel uneasy.
