I have sensitive skin and have to use a sunscreen without fail, so can I skip the moisturiser? And If I can't, which one should I apply first?

Moisturiser and sunscreen are two critical products that protect your skin from dehydration/dryness and UV rays. You can't skip either. Once you cleanse your skin, your body is washed off moisture too. To regain that moisture, you have to apply a good moisturiser no matter what your skin type. There are a lot of different moisturisers for different skin types. A sunscreen protects your skin from UVA rays, that age your skin rapidly and UVB rays, that burn your skin. So yes, even this is a must.

What a moisturiser does

A moisturiser holds the water in your skin that is your skin's essential requirement. It's a common myth that you shouldn't apply a moisturiser if you have oily skin. Whatever you skin type, moisturiser is a must. It not only retains the moisture of your skin, it also reduces signs of ageing. It also protects your skin from rashes or other skin allergies.

What a sunscreen does

Using a good quality sunscreen provides you protection against sun and its harmful rays. Apart from that, it also decreases your chances of getting skin cancer. It is always best to use a sunscreen that has SPF 15 or more. Find out how to choose the right sunscreen according to your skin type.

Why you should apply both

You need to use both, moisturiser and sunscreen twice a day even if you are indoors. Air-conditioner tends to dry your skin. Another factor leading to skin damage is pollution. Hence, for ample protection you should apply both.

Which one first

After you take a shower, use moisturiser on your face, neck, hands and feet. After 10-15 minutes, apply sunscreen. You can even apply sunscreen first and then moisturiser later. There is no particular pattern to follow. Just make sure you apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before leaving your house. It gives the sunscreen time to set so you are ready to face the sun. Stay safe and follow an effective skin care regimen for healthy, youthful skin.
