Does it look like you have more hair on your comb than on your head every time you brush your hair? While stress, your age and hormones can contribute to hair fall, the thing that could be going wrong is the way you style your hair. No, don t think it is the hairstyle, the way you execute it, is what is hurting your hair. Beauty and hair expert Janet Fernandez tells you how you can prevent your favourite looks from causing hair fall.
1. Wearing heavy hair extensions and weaves: The add-ons like weaves and extensions not only add extra weight to your hair but the weight of the extensions and braids cause stress to your hair and make them come out. Also, do not wear extensions for six to eight weeks as it can cause breakage even if the extensions are light. Choose light extensions and do not keep it for too long, else your hair will be susceptible to damage.
2. Using elastic rubber bands to tie ponytails: Tying ponytails, especially with the elastic bands, can lead to breakage of hair. Pulling out rubber bands that are made with tight elastic can tear out your hair. Go for fabric-covered rubber bands that can easily slide off your hair. You can control hair fall with amla or Indian gooseberry.
3. Using heat styling tools: Are you someone who needs to blow dry the hair every time you go out for a date or a party? Do not use the heat styling tools like curling tools, flat irons, blow dryers and hot combs frequently as they can destabilise the structure of the hair and lead to breakage. Try keeping things natural and if you must use a heat styling tool, make sure that you oil your hair later to prevent damage.
4. Blow drying wet hair: Also, do not blow dry wet hair as it can damage the hair due to the heat and exertion. A good way to prevent breakage is to make sure that you do not try to style wet hair. Here are top 10 reasons for hair loss in women.
