Step 2: Exfoliating

Before jumping right to your heavy duty stuff, exfoliate your skin. Exfoliation helps remove all the dead skin cells from the surface of the skin improving the skin texture. It also helps shrink the large pores and make your skin appear much softer and younger. In simple words, your skin will appear more glowing than ever. Scrub your face gently and focus on areas where you have congestion such as the nose, chin and forehead. It should take about 1-2 minutes to exfoliate your skin. Do not apply the scrub on the areas around your eyes as the skin is soft and sensitive. You can use any of these homemade exfoliating scrubs.

Step-3: Steaming

What s a spa-like facial without steaming? Steam will work wonders for your beauty. It will open the pores on your skin and release the impurities and toxins that build up on the surface. If you don t have a steamer, simply bring some water to boil in a big vessel. Switch the burner off and lean your face over the vessel to get the stem. Do not go too close as it may scald your skin. Also, ensure that your hair is tied back while you take a steam. You can also add lavender or geranium essential oils and rose petals for a refreshing experience they smell as delicious as they sound. Take the steam for 10 minutes, leaving a gap in between and then splash some cool water on your face.

Step-4: Facial mask

A good facial mask will help even out your skin tone. The masks will not only give your face that added glow but will also help deal with acne and pimple breakouts. It will also even out scars and pigments, so you look fresh and bright. If your skin is oily, use clay or mud masks to remove the excess oil. For dry skin, use a hydrating fruit mask. Just apply the mask on your face and leave it to dry for 10-15 minutes. Place a cucumber on both the eyes, put on some soothing music and simply relax. Then rinse your face with cold water.

Step-5: Moisturising

Follow your mask with a good moisturiser for a beautiful sheen post your facial. If your skin type is oily, go for a light, water-based moisturiser. Use a heavier, oil-based moisturiser for dry skin. Avoid the ones with fragrances if you have a combination skin.
