Everyone s ultimate beauty goal is to have clear, radiant and glowing skin as it is seen as a sign of great health and youth. Many women don t mind investing more money in their skin care products if it means keeping pimples, whiteheads and blackheads at bay. For years we ve been told how our skin care routine should include these three important steps cleansing, toning and moisturizing.
Several beauty products sell in these packages and claim to keep your skin looking young and supple while getting rid of unwanted oils, dirt and dead skin. However, don t fall for these aggressive advertisements and marketing campaigns that you need to spend a lot of money on a toner. Dermatologists actually say that you re better off without using a toner or astringent.
Toners claim to get rid of the grime, excess oil and dirt from your face along with closing your pores. However, what it actually does it dry out your skin and your expensive toner or astringent might actually cause your skin to flare up, especially if you have sensitive skin. Instead, try this tomato skin toner to shrink those open pores.
Dermatologist Dr Shuba Dharmana, says, I stopped using toners completely long ago. As you age, your skin becomes less oily. What makes toners a complete no-no is the fact that most of them contain alcohol that completely dries out your skin and makes it age a lot faster than usual.
Toners might suit a few skin types, but for those with sensitive skin, using it regularly can actually prove to be counter-productive in the long run, adds Dr Dharmana.
Experts also argue that even if toners don t harm your skin, using it is actually quite pointless because your regular face wash are equipped to adequately cleanse your skin without disturbing your skin s pH levels.
Dr Dharmana says that for those with sensitive skin, your toner can cause rosacea or facial redness and if you re fair-skinned, this condition can get aggravated. Other than that, toners are also known to result in skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. Our skin is equipped with a lipid barrier that prevents moisture loss, so some amount of oil on your face is actually a good thing as it prevents moisture loss and that acts as a defense mechanism to keep your face protected from any further irritations, she says.
Don t make the mistake of stripping your face off those natural oils. Other than that, if you re using toners or astringents in hopes that it will get rid of blackheads and whiteheads, it doesn t help at all, she further adds. Give these 5 natural astringents for oily skin a try.
Other than this, toners are also known to cause more pimple breakouts for those with acne as it increases the growth of the bacteria instead of reducing it. Instead, you can get rid of pimples with this simple homemade toner for better results.
So, what should you use on your face instead of these harsh toners and astringents? Dermatologists recommend going natural and opting for something like rose water. Not only is it cheaper but also far more effective without any side-effects. You can also try out these homemade toners for flawless skin.
