Not wearing any underwear while sleeping is the best way to keep your lady parts dry and prevent any infection. If you are covered down there while sleeping, there is an increase in bacteria which can be the perfect environment for yeast growth. You should consider sleeping naked. However, if you are not comfortable sleeping without your inners, here are a few guidelines on choosing the right underwear for sleeping, suggested by dermatologist Dr Jaishree Sharad. 1. Do not wear thongs

Stick to briefs and boy shorts and avoid wearing thongs while sleeping. Bacteria can spread and pass to the vagina via a thong that can lead to vaginal infections. If you are wearing, briefs ensure that you do not wear tight briefs while sleeping. Here are a few clothes and accessories you should avoid as they are secretly harming your health.

2. Stick to cotton underwear

When it comes to fabrics, cotton can be your best bet. The fibre can work well to keep your vagina feeling fresh in the night. Cotton can wick away moisture and discourage any yeast growth. However ensure that you do not wear the same pair of cotton underwear that you have been wearing all day, as this, in turn, increase the risk of yeast infection.

3. Wear seamless panty

The elastic bands that are too tight can be downright irritating while sleeping. When you twist and turn in sleep because of discomfort, all the rubbing can cause abrasions that could be deep enough to cause darkening and permanent scarring of the skin. Opt for seamless styles panties as they are most comforting on your skin. Opt for cotton undies that have a stretchy lace at the seams which means no visible underwear lines and no elastic bands. A total win-win situation.

4. Do not wear old and dirty underwear

Also, if your underwear is old, the elastic band in your underwear can potentially give you a rash called contact dermatitis. So ensure that you dispose of the old ones. Dirty underwear can carry up to a gram of faecal matters so ensure that you always wear clean underwear. In fact, you should change your underwear twice a day. If you are wearing pajamas, wear loose-fitted ones that are non-constricting and breathable. Follow these tips to keep your vagina healthy.

5. Wearing a bra while sleeping

Happiness for most women I know is taking off her bra before she crashes down after a long tiring day. You cannot deny that sleeping without a bra can make you feel comfortable and let you breathe. However, if you choose to sleep with your bra on, go for the light-weight ones without an underwire. The underwire bras can dig into your skin and make sleeping uncomfortable. Also do not wear the ill-fitted ones. If your breasts are large, you can wear a bra to prevent sagging but for all other sizes wearing a bra won t prevent sagging anyway. The bottom line is that you can keep your breasts healthy whether you wear a bra or not so just stick to whatever makes you feel comfortable. Follow these tips for choosing the right bra size and types.
