I used several bath salts for the past month and tried a few essential oils too. These have an amazing calming effect on the mind and body and definitely rejuvenate you on a tiring day. If you have the right ingredients at home you might not even need a store bought bath salt.

I was recently chatting with a friend who suggested I try her mom s age old recipe of turning your bath water in a magic potion to calm and soothe the body. I asked her for the recipe and couldn t wait to try it the next evening when I returned from the gym. I was skeptical if it would really work but the list of ingredients were almost the same as those in the Khadi bath salt and Soulflower bath salt that I tried before.

Here s the recipe for the DIY bath salt:

Ingredients

  • cup sea salt
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 lemons or oranges

Method

  • Add the baking soda and salt in the slightly hot not warm water.
  • Squeeze the lemon juice or orange in the water.
  • Stir well and bathe.

I deviated from the recipe a little and added few drops of eucalyptus oil since I had it at home. You can skip that part. Sea salt is known for soothing tired muscles. I always soak my feet in a tub of hot water mixed with sea salt after a night of dancing and it really helps. Baking soda prevents skin irritation and is an important ingredient in the beauty cabinet due to its exfoliating properties. Eucalyptus helps combat pain and infection and also acts as a natural deodorant and the citrus-y fragrance of lemon or oranges can make this simple DIY bath feel like a spa.

After the bath, I felt relaxed and did not wake up with sore muscles the next day which is a sign that the bath salts definitely worked their magic. It s easy to make and cheap too. Since Valentines Day is around the corner, I am going to use this the night before to wake up fresh and rejuvenated.
