For a perfect skin, it is important to keep your skin slightly more acidic than alkaline. Healthy skin has a very fine acidic film on its surface, called the acid mantle, which keeps pimple-causing bacteria like p acnes and other pathogens away. Normally, the pH of the skin is anywhere between 4.5 and 6.2. But when you use alkalising soaps and cleansers, the acid mantle breaks down, inviting the acne-causing bacteria to set shop in your skin. That's why dermatologists and skin specialists insist on using gentle cleansers which won't hurt the protective acid mantle of your skin. Here are some expert suggestions that will help you beat acne!
So when I couldn't figure out why my skin was breaking out at an alarming, I figured it had something to do with the cheap face wash I was using. Although it gave me that fresh, squeaky clean feeling, strangely, it was also aggravating my breakouts. So that's why I decided to get Sebamed Clear Face Cleansing Foam along with its moisturiser.
The packaging
Since it is a liquid facial foam, it comes in a bottle instead of a tube with a pump.
The ingredients
The new powerful antibacterial ingredient in the face wash is Montaline C40, a coconut oil derivative. It is said to be very effective against acne bacteria. I read somewhere that it kills 1,00,000 bacteria within five minutes (don't know who did the counting). So if this doesn't work, nothing else will.
The price
At Rs 630, it is not exactly very cost-effective. So unless you have a serious acne problem that isn't budging despite your best attempts, try Sebamed.
The review
The foam looked too diluted and weak at first. I never knew that it could do such a thorough cleaning job. It leaves your skin feeling fresh and clean without that stretchiness. It works best when you use it with Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel. But to be honest, I have only seen a moderate decrease in my breakouts.
The verdict
If you are looking for soap-free options, there are cheaper alternatives like Cetaphil. But the downside is that it contains parabens. It works well if you have normal to dry skin.
