Product Review: Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner

The Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner has surely impressed me with its finish and long lasting effect. It is easy on the pocket too!

I love eye make-up. One thing I never step out without is my kohl or eyeliner. Foundation creams, mousses, bases are not my thing. All I need is nice long lasting smudge proof eyeliner that doesn t irritate my contact lenses, some compact and a bright lip colour I am set for the evening.

I was a fan of the liquid eyeliners until a few months back. Having read a lot about gel eyeliners and even written about different types of eyeliners and choosing the right one. I decided to give this matte, long lasting eyeliner a try. From the vast choices, I picked up the Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Liner. Why? Because I read good reviews about it and it was not very expensive. That s me. Whenever I have to try a new product I prefer to choose the brand that s easy on the pocket.

So here s my take:

The packaging: It comes in a neat compact box. It includes a tiny pot of the gel eyeliner with an application brush. Many expensive brands require buying a separate brush which increases the overall price of the product. The sleek plastic lid is better than the metallic one the product had earlier.

The effect: It s chic. I love the finish. The brush is not too long and fits perfectly in my hand, making the application easy. You can choose to keep it simple by drawing just a fine line from inwards to outwards for a daily look or thicken it for a dramatic look. To get the winged style perfectly, you will need a little practice. With a little practice, applying this gel eyeliner will also be as easy as the liquid or pencil eyeliner.

Pros

  • It dries down pretty quickly, unlike my liquid liner.
  • The sharp effect lasts for almost 8 hours, which is great for me. The liner, if applied on the lower line lasts a little longer than my upper line, but that is because I have hooded eyes.
  • I don t need to apply multiple layers for a dark ink black effect.
  • I love the matte finish and it is as dark as kohl can get which goes perfectly with my dusky skin.

Cons

  • For some, the price may be slightly steep considering it costs Rs.450 for a 2.8g pot but I have been using it for the past three months almost twice a week and it might not finish for the next two months for sure.
  • The brush needs to be washed often so it doesn t become hard with residue.
  • When applied on the waterline it stains my contacts and gives a slight burning sensation.
  • You will have to keep the pot closed even when you are applying the liner as it tends to dry up very fast and will then be unusable. But I think that is the case with most gel eyeliners.
