The main problem in summer is perspiration. The feet are among the areas where sweat collects and odour forms. The waste matter, secreted with sweat, along with germs, must be removed by daily washing. Pay special attention to the feet, while bathing. After washing them well, dry them thoroughly and apply talcum powder. If you wear closed shoes, talcum powder can be sprinkled inside shoes. However, in the hot and humid season, slippers and open sandals are best, as they allow perspiration to evaporate. But, open footwear also attracts dirt and therefore, foot hygiene becomes all the more important. After a hot day, soak your feet in cold water, to which some salt has been added.

GIVE YOURSELF A FOOT TREATMENT AT HOME

Soak your feet in warm water, after adding some herbal shampoo, any vegetable oil, like sunflower oil or olive oil and coarse salt. Soak for 15 minutes. Then clean the nails with a brush. Use a pumice stone on the heels and side of the soles. Avoid metal scrubbers. Or, scrub feet with a rough towel or loofah. Then wash the feet in clean water. Dry with a towel.

HAVE A SCRUB TREATMENT

Mix rice powder with yogurt, some sugar and pinch of turmeric. Apply it on the feet. After 15 to 20 minutes, rub gently on the skin with circular movements. Wash off with water. Then massage the feet with olive oil or sunflower oil. Wipe off excess oil with a moist towel. Mix one tablespoon each of lemon juice and honey with 50 ml rose water. Apply on the feet. Lie down and relax for half an hour. Wash it off with plain water.

PAY ATTENTION TO FOOT PROBLEMS

A foot problem called "Athlete's Foot" develops more easily during hot and humid weather, because it thrives on soggy skin. Athlete's foot starts as a fungus infection. So, if there is dry scaling on the feet, especially between the toes, along with itching, consult a dermatologist without delay.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR FEET WITH THESE NATURAL REMEDIES

Here are some natural remedies for care of the feet.

For fungal infection

Apple cider vinegar is said to help fungal infection. Mix the vinegar with water in equal quantities and apply on the affected area of the skin with cotton wool pads. Leave on for half an hour and then dry the area by patting with a clean towel.

For athlete's foot

For athlete's foot or nail fungus, soak 4 black tea bags in four to five cups of boiling water. Allow it to cool and soak the feet in the tea-water.

Tea Tree Oil can also be applied. Mix it with aloe vera gel or olive oil in equal quantities and apply on the affected area.

Make your own foot lotion

Mix together 3 tablespoons of rose water, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and one teaspoon pure glycerin. Apply on feet and leave on for half an hour.

Cooling foot bath

Add rose water, lemon juice and a splash of eau de cologne in cold water and soak feet in it. Cools, cleans and removes odour.

Foot Soak

In one-fourth bucket of warm water, add half cup of coarse salt and 10 drops of lemon, or orange essential oil (if you cannot get essential oil, use half cup of lemon or orange juice). If your feet tend to sweat a lot, use a few drops of tea tree oil, as it has germicidal properties. It helps to deal with bad odour. Soak the feet for 10 to 15 minutes.

Cooling Foot Massage Oil

Take 100 ml olive oil and add 2 drops eucalyptus oil, 2 drops rosemary oil and 3 drops khus, or rose oil. Mix together and keep in airtight glass jar. Use a little of this for foot massage. It cools and protects the skin and keeps it healthy.
