I am a 30-year-old professional. I have a field job, and my hair becomes extremely dry especially during winters. I use warm water to wash my hair. Can you please tell me what could be the cause of it? Also, please tell me a proper hair care routine to manage dry hair.
The query is answered by beauty expert, Shahnaz Husain.
During winter, the weather is cold and dry, which causes your skin and hair to become dry and frizzy. The dry air removes the moisture from the skin and scalp making you vulnerable to dry skin and hair. Most people believe that winters are the right time to explore and enjoy the warm sunshine, which in your case is inevitable. Moreover, hot water bathing and washing the hair with warm water to deal with the cold temperature outside is preferred. However, the lack of humidity in the air causes the hair and scalp to lose moisture. Also, exposure to the sun and hot water baths further leads to dryness. This causes the hair to become dry and difficult to manage, which can result in split ends. You can also try these 5 best hair masks for dry hair.
So to deal with dry hair, you can opt for a conditioner as it helps to protect the hair from the dry weather and also helps in retaining the moisture in the hair. Moreover, a conditioner also plays a key role in making your hair soft, smooth, shiny and manageable. As you have dry hair, apply a creamy conditioner after shampooing the hair with mild shampoo. While applying the conditioner, take a little quantity on the palm, rub and gently apply on the hair along the length. Leave the conditioner for two minutes before rinsing it with plain water, preferably cold water. You can even use a leave-in conditioner or a hair serum to lock the moisture. For best results, invest in a shampoo with a built-in conditioner as it performs the dual task of cleansing as well as conditioning the hair. Follow this hair care routine to manage dry hair. For this, heat equal quantities of coconut oil, til oil or olive oil and apply on the scalp and hair. After applying the oil, dip a towel in hot water, squeeze out the water and wrap it around the head, like a turban. Let it remain for 5 minutes and repeat it for three to four times. Do this once or twice a week as it helps in absorption of oil by the scalp and hair and aids in managing dry, dull hair.
