The moment you think of moles or beauty spots, Hollywood sex symbol, Marilyn Monroe or our very own Bollywood diva, Rekha, comes to mind. These popular actresses made a unique mark of their own and also popularised facial moles as beauty marks, and many people aspire to have at least one mole on their face, an artificial one even! But how safe is getting an artificial mole, or a mole tattoo? Our expert Dr Anil Ganjoo, HOD Department of Dermatologist and Senior Consultant, Saroj Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi explains how to get it done in a safe way.

If you are planning to get an artificial mole or tattoo on the face, get it done from an expert dermatologist. Remember not to get a tattoo on a naturally present mole, as this might induce changes in the mole and in extreme cases might lead to malignancy. Although you can make an artificial mole with the help of a kajal or eye-liner, if you want a permanent one, it is better to get it done from a professional. Here are a few things to consider before you zero on getting an artificial mole.

  • Ensure that the entire process is carried out hygienically. The equipment used for the process should be sterilised after every use and the needles should be new, and discarded after a single use.
  • For better outcome, it is important to get the process done by a professional like a qualified dermatologist or an expert tattoo artist.
  • The tattoo should be done on fresh, clean skin and not on a mole or a healing skin. Here are few more things you need to consider before getting a tattoo.
