Wondering what is the shelf life of your loofah or toothbrush? A few products in your bathroom don t have an expiry date, and it can be tricky to find out for how long they will last. Germs can easily surface in the bathroom, so toss these products at the right time. Here s when you should dispose off a few of them. If you are using a public toilet, follow this 9-step healthy guide.
Toothbrush
You must toss your toothbrush every two-three months, says well-known dentist Dr Nikita Goyal. Toss it sooner if the bristles flare out. Also, make sure that you use a new brush if you have been sick, as the old one can breed bacteria and reinfect your body.
Loofah
Never use your loofah for too long and toss it after three-four weeks. There are chances that bacteria will build up in the crevices of the loofah and infect you through acne or any open cut. A loofah also loses the ability to slough off dead cells after 3-4 weeks, so it s best that you toss it soon.
Razor blade
Dispose of a razor blade after 5-6 shaves as it gets nicked and can cut your skin. According to dermatologist Dr Sejal Shah, bacteria can also develop on the irritated skin and lead to a skin rash. So a blunt blade is a sure sign that you need to replace your shaving companion for a newer one. Here's how you can prevent razor burns.
Towels
What according to you is the grossest place in your bathroom? Well, it could just be your damp towel. The wet towels you use are a breeding place for bacteria, including salmonella and e-coli. The best thing to do is to wash your towels every two-three days and make sure that they are thoroughly dry between uses. Ideally, you should replace your old towel with a new one every 3-4 months.
Nail tools
Whether you frequently use the nail tools or not, replacing them is crucial. Once your clippers, files or pushers look dull, dirty or rusty, throw them away. You should also clean these tools after every use to prevent the growth of bacteria.
