I am 32 years old and I have cracked heels which is not only painful but also looks quite bad. How can I treat them at home?

Cracked heels can be a result of wearing flip-flops too often or even walking barefoot on rough terrain. It is important to take good care of your feet and heal the cracks as it could also lead to an infection. Here is what you can do at home.
Fill a bucket with lukewarm water and add some sea salt in it. Soak your feet in it for 10 minutes. This will soften the cracks. Now take a stone pumice stone and rub the edges of your feet with it. You can also make a foot scrub to remove dead skin build-up. Mix olive oil and some raw sugar and rub the scrub your feet with it. Now wash your feet and pat dry. Moisturise with a heavy cream. You can even use petroleum jelly which is quite suitable for treating cracks. Remember to wear socks after this to lock in the moisture. The best time to do this is before bedtime. Sleep with socks on and wash your feet in the morning. Also read pedicure basics for happy feet.
Another quick remedy for cracked heels is applying a paste of turmeric powder (haldi) and oil -- either castor or olive -- apply on the cracks about 15 minutes before bath.
Try a combination of both the remedies to heal the crack in your heels. Wear good shoes and don't walk barefoot even at home till they are completely treated. Winters can dry out the skin even more so keep your feet moisturised.
