But before you buy one, here are tips to get the right one based on your body type. Many women think that they do not look good in a swimsuit and avoid stepping into the pool but the truth is, if you know what to pick keeping a few parameters in mind, you too can accentuate your curves and flaunt your figure on the beach or in the pool. Designers Shivan and Narresh who gave India its first luxury swimwear brand, SHIVAN & NARRESH, and continue designing beach and resort wear collections which are often sported by several celebrities, share tips to select the right swimsuit for different body types. Women who have a heavy torso but normal upper bodies fall under this category. Imagine the likes of Rihanna or Beyonce who have a heavy bottom and thighs, enhancing these areas the most. Such women have a pear-shaped structure. In order to take the attention away from these heavy parts, the designer duo recommends wearing a diagonal-cut maillot (single piece swimsuit). The idea is to shift the focus to their long legs or their shoulders. Also Read - Wearable patch can cool you down on hot summer day

Women with such bodies can even opt for one-shouldered or a boat neck swimming costume. They should give prominence to their collarbone or opt for swimsuits with higher cuts at the hip to make the legs look long and slender. They can even opt for costumes with contrasting colours to make their body look leaner.

Hourglass figure

Touted as the perfect figure, women with an hourglass figure have a shapely chest and bottom and a slender waist. Actresses like Kate Winslet and Katrina Kaif are sound examples of women with such a body shape. Another reason this shape is perfect is because any silhouette works for them. ‘From a quintessential maillot to a two-piece swimsuit, they can experiment with different styles and cuts. They can pick a bikini to emphasise their waistline, or a halter to underline the bust. Most of the Indian body type is curvy or fits into this category and is best-suited for flaunting a swimwear,’ say Shivan and Narresh.

trikiniAthletic body type

Women with an athletic frame are those who have broad and strong shoulders and a parallel waistline. They are also called apple-shaped body. Such women need to give an illusion of a thinner waist and draw the focus away from the shoulders as well. According to Shivan and Narresh, women with such a body type should opt for bikinis or trikinis (a swimsuit which resembles a bikini but is attached from the centre). They can even wear a one-shouldered or twin-shouldered maillot but should definitely avoid halters and bandeau (tube) styles as these can make the shoulders look broader.

Straight or tubular shape

Women with such bodies have a small chest and bottom and little definition around the waist. The idea is to select a swimsuit which helps them accentuate their body and make it look a little curvy. In order to do so, the designers advice opting for necklines such as the halter or bandeaus which emphasise the bust. A trikini too is a good option for such a body frame as it gives an illusion of a lean yet curvy figure.

So whatever your body shape, there is no reason to worry. Proudly flaunt it in a swimsuit as you take a dip in the pool or stroll on the beach with the help of these expert tips and tricks.
