removing make-upPop colours can brighten up your face, but to improve your skin ensure that you clean it with a mild face wash once you get back home from your outings. Makeover expert Aashmeen Munjaal shares how to go gentle on the skin after exposing it to a heavy dose of make-up.

Tips to remove make-up

Wash your face with a mild face wash according to your skin type. If you have oily/combination skin, use a cleanser or face wash with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. For dry skin, use a creamy, gentle cleanser or a foaming face wash that will not dry out the skin too much. Clean your skin properly because some cosmetics have granules which go deep in the pores. Massage gently with your fingertips in circular movements, use lukewarm water and a facial sponge to deep cleanse. While cleanser removes make-up and dirt, you need to use a toner to close the pores. Eye make-up is more stubborn to remove especially when it is waterproof. The mascara needs to be dissolved first with an oil-based cleanser or make-up remover. To remove eye make-up, always use a remover with less number of chemicals. Do not rub the delicate under-eye area. To prevent patchy and dark skin under your eye, apply aloe vera gel and massage it with your ring finger in clockwise or anti-clockwise manner. You can put green tea ice bags on your eyes to soothe them.

These days, women use lipsticks that last for nine to twelve hours. Use wet tissues to remove the lip colour. After removing the make-up, massage them and apply a coat of glycerine to make your lips soft.

Remember, sleeping with make-up on can lead to acne break-outs, accelerate the ageing process and make the skin look dull so always make it a point to remove any speck of it at the end of the day. (Read: Is the mercury in your eye harming your eyes?)
