How to make your own matte nail colour at home

Your own matte nail paint in any colour with just two ingredients.

I am not a big fan of DIY but love painting my nails. It s usually difficult to get a matte shade in every nail colour I like. Most nail colours come with shimmer or a super glossy finish. The others that claim to be matte aren t completely matte either, and the gel kind of matte nail colours are too expensive. So I looked up for a few ways and here s a tried and tested trick I found to make your own matte nail colour at home with these ingredients:

Trick 1 for DIY Matte nail paint:

  • 1 tsp cornstarch or cornflour
  • Any nail colour of your choice
  • Toothpick and flat plastic tray or surface

Method:

  • Clean your nails and apply a base coat.
  • Take a pinch of cornflour and 2-3 drops of nail colour and mix it with a toothpick. This is a trial run so that you can check if it s the perfect matte you need. Mix the cornstarch well to avoid any lumpy texture.
  • Now apply the nail colour and wait for it to dry. This should take about 30 seconds. And there you have your perfect matte nails ready. Read: Tips to choose the most flattering nail shape!
  • Mix it in small quantities while you apply the nail colour to avoid it from drying.
  • Applying the base coat ensures that the application is smooth since the nail polish turns a bit thick when you add cornflour to it.

Trick 2 for DIY Matte nail paint:

What you ll need:

  • Old powdered eyeshadow
  • Transparent nail colour or base coat
  • Toothpick and flat plastic container or tray for mixing

Method:

  • Mix the powdered eyeshadow with the transparent nail colour. You will have to mix this really well to form a smooth paste or thick nail colour.
  • Now apply it on your nails and allow to dry for a minute. You have perfect matte nails ready.

  • It is also a good way to use the old eyeshadows.
  • If you want a shade lighter than your eyeshadow, you can use white nail colour as the base coat. I mixed black eyeshadow with white nail colour to get a nice matte grey nail paint.
