From silicone sponge to beauty blender, the last couples of years have witnessed a range of revolutionary blending tools. After all, these tools do come handy and if you are into hardcore makeup, you will understand that power of blending. To get that air-brushed, dewy and au natural look blending is indeed the key. But how much blending is too much and it is really good for your skin? She further helps us in understanding the A-Z of blending mistakes, layering makeup products and how foundation isn t a substitute for wearing daily moisturiser or sunscreen.

The right way of blending: Makeup has been worn by men and women from the Ancient Egyptian times and has undergone a drastic transformation in the last few years. It is good for your skin as long as you perform the first most important step - SKINCARE. Make sure that you have cleansed your face, applied a moisturizer and a primer before starting your makeup routine. Your skin will thank you. Do not make these blending mistakes EVER: If you are someone who uses your hands to rub your foundation into the skin instead of with a brush or sponge, it's going to settle into your pores, causing everything you're trying to cover up actually stand out even more. Use a beauty blender or a foundation brush to blend the foundation without making it look patchy.

Keep these steps in mind when layering your makeup: Layering makeup is the key to obtaining a flawless look. However, to get that look in the most hygienic and patch-free way possible, here s what you should be doing

  • All your applicators should be clean before using it - run a beauty blender under water and soap to help remove all the accumulated dirt, clean makeup brushes with a brush cleanser or baby oil and shampoo.
  • If you tend to use your fingers for applying concealer, wash your hands well before and after.
  • Always remember that makeup expires! Don't use them beyond their expiry date as it will damage your skin. Replace your mascara every 3 months, eyeliner and eye shadow every 12 months, lipsticks every 2 years (toss it if they start smelling weird sooner) and foundation and powder every 12 months.

Look for these ingredients when buying a good quality foundation: When choosing a foundation, make sure that they do not contain sulfates and polyethylene glycol (helps skin and hair absorb products but could cause cancer). Look for products that have it labelled on them as hypoallergenic (they're less likely to cause allergic reactions), noncomedogenic (they won't block pores) and nonacnegenic (they won't cause acne). Foundation is NOT a substitute for wearing a sunscreen as your daily moisturiser: Foundation, sunscreen and moisturiser all have different roles in makeup and skincare. You cannot substitute one for another as they will not work the way they're meant to. You need to always apply your skincare first - moisturizer and then a sunscreen which are the cornerstones of skincare and only then a layer of foundation to hide any imperfections.

Adverse effects of too much makeup and over blending: People with extremely acne prone skin might benefit with staying away from makeup for a while as makeup is said to clog pores. So, if your skin cannot breathe, the acne would start getting worse. If you apply makeup everyday, make sure you pay utmost importance to the process before and after the application of makeup, i.e. skincare and makeup removal. This will definitely work towards keeping acne at bay.
