I am a 26-year-old working professional. I often find myself looking odd in pictures. How do I look better in pictures?

It can be quite disappointing when none of your efforts in looking presentable turn out in pictures. Considering the fact that not everybody is photogenic, you might not be very pleased with your pictures. Keeping a few tricks in mind can change this, here is how:

Pleasant face

Are you prone to squinting your eyes every time a camera flashes on your face? Or do you find your eyes shut in most pictures? Make a conscious effort to be alert and smile naturally when you are asked to pose for a picture. Don't strain your eyes and be at ease. If it works for you, then just before the click blink your eyes quickly and pose in a calm posture. This may help alert your eyes in case of a sudden picture and reduce chances of any squinting or strain. Also, don't put on a grumpy face, your facial expressions can make or break a picture.

Right angle

For your facial features to look just right for the camera, you need to spot the right angle that works for you. You don't need to have that chiseled, high cheekbones face necessarily. Be cautious that you don't pose with your chin drooping down, in fact, push your head an inch ahead, this helps create an illusion of a stronger jawline. Just stand in front of the mirror and figure the angle meant for you. You could also try three different shots, posing in the right, lift and middle directions. Once done, ask for an honest opinion from your friend and see which angle looks just fine for you.

Correct posture

Your body posture reflects your personality instantly. If you have a hunched back or are standing too stiffly then your picture may not look good. An easy way to crack this is by posing according to the kind of picture it is, whether it is a full profile one, close-up or a selfie. Work your angles well to look pleasant on camera.

Modify your look

There are certain features that usually draw the most attention on your face. If you think you have bushy eyebrows and they look odd in pictures or if you think you are due for a makeover, then simply change your look. Hair colour, haircut, beard and your moustache style can make a big difference. If your face looks oily in pictures because of sweating, then quickly pat yourself dry before the click.
