EarwaxHi , I am Rahul (name changed), 28, currently working for a BPO. Since my work demands constant usage of headphones I have started developing a lot of earwax. Could you please guide me about the dos and dont's to get rid of this?

Earwax is one of the things that can easily be a turn-off. Maintaining proper ear hygiene is necessary for its proper functioning. You can opt for professional and medically accepted ear cleaning, as directed by your ENT specialist. Or else, regularly clean them out using ear buds. Here are some of the precautions you need to take while cleaning your ears:

  • Using things like safety pins, hair pins, matchsticks, pins, ends of a feather should be avoided.
  • Avoid spraying anything into your ear. The water or solution that is released can harm the sensitive skin of the ear canal and your ear drum.
  • Do not use the services of some roadside ear cleaners or 'ear wallahs', as they use a sharp metal pin wrapped with cotton to clean your ear. It is simply an accident waiting to happen.
  • Use a soft towel to dry the outer part of your ear. The inside will dry on its own. Never use a hair dryer, as this may burn your ear.

It's wiser to consult an ENT specialist in severe cases.
