Love handles and bulges often look prominent when you pick clothing that does not make you look proportionate. With the right choice of clothes and some alternatives, covering up the side flab is not much of a task. Here are 8 tips to help hide your love handles with ease:
Right tops
You can put together a look with your tops that don't make you look bulky. Celebrity stylist Shreeja Rajgopal suggests, 'People on the heavier side can opt for tops that don't accentuate their sides. One can opt for a loose shirt -- folded sleeves and pair them up with skinny fits and a pair of gladiator sandals/ballerinas. A big no-no for a person with heavy torso is a peplum top, unless the person is absolutely confident to carry it off.'
Go high-waist
High-waist bottoms are your best options. High-waist skirts, trousers or pants, shorts work very well to hide your problem areas. With this pattern, your waist and hip areas are not divided and hence trick the love handles from looking prominent.
Avoid loose and baggy clothing
Loose clothing is always a comfortable option, but anything too loose or baggy will only make you look bigger. You'd rather wear clothes that are the right fit and not too tight. The best fit makes you look propionate and not bulky from certain areas.
Anything A-line
An A-line dress is preferable over a tight-fitted, straight outfit. Straight fits usually pay a lot of attention around the stomach area, so you'd rather opt for an A-line fit which looks more flattering. A-line skirts, dresses or even gowns work best for those with love handles or a flabby waistline and hip area. Even if you are keen to sport a tight-fitted dress, you could consider buying a well-fitted corset.
Colour correction
Another way of hiding your love handles is with a suitable choice of colours. Shreeja advices, 'Dark colours work best in hiding flab be it blacks, blues, dark browns, etc.' You could team up brighter tops with dark colours at the bottom.
No body-hugging materials
Stay away from extremely tight clothing, but if you do choose to wear a tight or straight-fitted garment, be cautions of the material you choose. Any material that is body-hugging should be avoided. Satin, lycra, polyester are fabrics that shouldn't be used. Instead go for sheer, chiffon or georgette for A-line dresses.
Ditch the belt
It's best to skip using belts, especially the oversized and big ones while dressing up. Wearing tight belts over the hips often makes the side flab spill over the trousers, making your love handles appear even more prominent. If you however, need to wear a belt, use a thin and sleek type, one which is not tugging into your waist.
Experiment with layers
As long as the weather permits, you could try some layering in your clothing. Layers help divert attention from flabby areas and enhance your look and body type exceptionally. Try wearing a long but well-fitted top or T-shirt with leggings and wear on a waist coat or a jacket as per your preference. This is a good way of experimenting with your attire and looks trendy at the same time.
