Here’s why you frequently get acne on the chin and T-zone

Are your chin and T- zone the favourite spots of acne and pimples? It is not abnormal. These are acne prone areas and are more prone to breakouts than other parts of your face. Some people believe that oily skin is most susceptible to acne breakouts. But this is not true, dry and combination skinned people also suffer from acne breakouts. Dr Navin Taneja, Dermatologist, Venereologist and Director of National Skin Centre, Delhi tells us about the reason why acne breakouts are common on the chin and T-zone.

  1. In teenagers blockage of the pores in these areas play a vital role in the development of acne which makes the condition common among all teens. Stress, pregnancy, menstrual cycles, starting or stopping birth control pills are also the common reasons that affect these areas first.
  2. The blocking of pores results in the trapping of oil within the skin pores. This can also be termed as overactive oil glands blockage of the pores.
  3. The bacteria Propionibacterium acnes (P.acnes) produce chemicals that alter the composition of the oil, which makes it more irritating to the skin and causes inflammation.
  4. The acne on your chin is attributed to hormonal changes. Sebaceous glands are under hormonal control, particularly androgens. The sebaceous gland is very sensitive to circulating androgen.
  5. Redness, swelling, warmth and discomfort occur due to the inflammation of the skin. Inflammation occurs because the body’s immune system which is acting to get of any foreign substance.
  6. Digestive system disorders are also closely linked to acne around the nose and T-zone.

Avoid inflammatory foods and follow a good cleansing routine. Blood purifiers can help too. You can also follow these tips to avoid acne.
