Rose water was one of the few products that I would use as a teenager. Rosewater made my skin glow and for someone who had a dry skin, rose water was a miracle ingredient. I carried the rose water spray bottle to college and now keep it handy in my purse which makes me a loyal fan of rose water for over eight years now. While I would buy rose water from the stores, now I prepare it at home.

Here s how I made my own DIY rose water spray with only three ingredients:

  • Distilled water
  • A dozen long stem roses washed and peeled
  • 2-3 tablespoon aloe vera gel

Step 1: Fill a pot with rose petals

Step 2: Then take the distilled water and pour on top of the rose petals. Do not go overboard as too much water can ruin the integrity of your rose water. Push down the rose petals to submerge them in the water.

Step 3: Add 2-3 tablespoons of aloe vera gel. Aloe vera is not only soothing but also moisturizing.

Step 4: Place a small bowl on top of the rose petals and cover placing the lid upside down. As the rose petal start to simmer and lose their colour, it creates condensation giving you the purest form of rose water.

Step 5: Let the petals cook on a stove for about 30 minutes or until the rose petals completely lose their colour.

Step 6: Let it cool down. Remove from the flame.

Step 7: Drain the rose water into measuring cup and then funnel the water into a small spray bottle. Here are 3 reasons rose water is your eyes' best friend.

Rose water is both hydrating, anti-inflammatory and most of all very refreshing. It is so calming that it can be a real treat when you need to refresh your make-up or when you are travelling. You can also clear blackheads with rose water and cucumber juice. So would you make your own DIY rose water at home?
