You subject your hair to a lot of stress all around the year. Tons of heat tools and hair straightening treatments can make your hair look and feel a little dull. You may also experience hair fall in the process. Here are a few hair straightening methods and treatments that can lead to hair fall.

Temporary straightening methods

Vikas Marwah expert stylist and salon owner shares how temporary straightening heat tools can lead to hair loss.

Blow drying: An easy, no-fuss method to straighten your hair is to blow dry after a shower. But you will see a few extra strands on your hairbrush if you blow dry your hair daily. High heat and the duration for which it is used on the hair will also impact its structure. There is a cuticle damage which makes the hair more breakable. Steam forming inside the hair shaft causes hair breakage. It is, therefore, necessary to limit the amount of heat as well as the length of time you dry your hair. Find out what is the right blow dryer for your hair type.

Ironing: When you crank your straightening iron at a very high temperature and go over it, again and again, you not only damage your hair but also lose out a lot of hair in the process. So always keep the iron on low heat and take small sections so that it is gentler on your hair and styles more quickly. Also, avoid these mistakes when straightening your hair.

Permanent straightening treatments

Dr. Pooja Naik consulting trichologist at Transform Cosmetic Clinic talks about the side effects of permanent hair straightening methods.

Thermal reconditioning: In thermal reconditioning or rebonding, chemicals are applied on hair to break the bonds and convert the curls to poker straight hair. However, did you know that this hair straightening treatment can cause severe damage to your hair? It can make your hair excessively brittle and dry. Frequent touch-ups can also damage your hair follicles and lead to hair fall. So if you want to straighten your hair, make sure that you are not doing it too frequently. Take care of rebonded hair with these tips.

Chemical relaxers: The chemical relaxers too have side effects. The relaxers use sodium hydroxide that can be very damaging to your hair. You can suffer hair loss if you use the relaxers on unhealthy chemically treated or damaged hair.

Hair smoothening: Hair smoothening is apt for people with wavy hair or even straight hair with a little frizz. While it can make the hair more manageable and smoothen out the frizz, frequent touch-ups can lead to hair fall. A smoothening cream and straightening iron is used in the process. The heat applied can result in 20% of the hair getting destroyed leading to brittle hair. Instead, follow these 7 tricks to manage wavy hair.

Cysteine treatment: Cysteine treatment has gained a lot of popularity over the years. It contains no formaldehyde and is thus better than the keratin hair treatment. But if genuine products are not used, the effect reduces with every wash and you may also notice hair fall. Here's all you need to know about the cysteine hair treatment.
