Oily and itchy scalp and dry hair are the first problems that monsoons tag along. How do you exactly tame your mane in this condition? The itchy and oily scalp makes you want to wash your hair every second day but the hair keeps getting drier and frizzy. We asked Mayophi Qinghai, founder Mayophi, hairstylist and beauty expert the solution to this hair problem and here s what she suggests:

  • No matter how much you are tempted to wash your hair every day or alternate day, you must wash your hair only twice a week during monsoons. This helps maintain and retain the natural moisture balance in your hair and prevent the dryness. Here are some of the causes of dry hair.
  • For those with naturally dry hair in all seasons, monsoons demand extra care. A good hair mask, whether store bought or homemade must be applied before every hair wash or at least once a week. Make sure you keep the hair mask for at least 15-20 minutes. You can try some of these DIY hair masks for dry hair.
  • Hair serum that helps lock in moisture of your hair is highly recommended too. Try this natural hair serum for dull, dry and frizzy hair.
  • Hair care products must ideally be from the same brand. So try and use a shampoo, hair conditioner, serum and spray from the same brand. Mayophi also suggests using Wella hair masks and serums that are easily available in the market and easy on the pocket too. Here are some hair care tips from monsoons that you can follow.
  • Adding proteins to your diet can also help prevent dry hair during monsoons says Dr Aparna Santharam, dermatologist and cosmetologist.
  • Tone down the use of styling products and allow the hair to dry naturally. Avoid chemical treatments during monsoons as the chemicals can react with the rain water to add to hair problems. Tying your hair neatly in a ponytail or braid is also a great way to stay away from bad hair days.
