You may think that the tiny red bumps on the back of your arms is acne, like what you usually get on your back. But it could just be another common skin condition. Well-known dermatologist Dr Ruchi Agarwal tells you about the bumps on your hands and how you can get rid of them.

The bumps on the skin is a condition called keratosis pilaris. About 50 percent of the people suffer from the bumpy skin condition. The bumps usually look like tiny white or red pimples that have a scorched feel. These bumps are nothing but dead skin cells that get clogged up in your hair follicles. They not only occur on the back of your arms but can also occur at the back of your buttocks and thighs. Also, find out the symptoms of the other common skin conditions.

The bumps are harmless and may not itch or hurt, but they can definitely make your hands look ugly. So here are a few tips that can help you get rid of them.

  • Apply a good moisturiser twice a day. Opt for the ones containing salicylic acid or alpha hydroxy.
  • Use a vitamin A rich topical retinoid cream that will help promote cell growth and also prevent the hair follicles from getting clogged. However, make sure that you get the retinoid cream prescribed by your dermatologist.
  • A little exfoliation is always good to slough off the dead skin cells. You can use an exfoliating scrub or gently exfoliate your skin using loofahs.
