If you have dealt with acne, you will be able to relate to people being desperate to find the cause and the solution to the problem. While many things trigger acne, dairy seems to be a repeat offender. Dairy products are excellent for your bones but when it comes to keeping your skin acne free could ditching dairy be the answer? Well-known nutritionist, Dr Shweta Sawhney founder of Nutri Advice, answers your question.
The hormones in milk from cows may stimulate oil glands which trigger acne. So whether you are drinking organic milk or the free range ones, they all contain the hormones that can trigger acne. Plus, milk contains a lot of fat and sugar which can also aggravate acne. The lactose in milk has also been linked to causing allergic reactions in many people. Also, dairy contains whey and casein proteins which can lead to inflammation.
Individuals who suffer from acne try all sorts of remedies but how do you know that dairy is the cause? The best thing to do in this case is to cut out dairy and see if your acne gets any better. But remember that pores take about 1 to 2 months to get clogged and inflamed, and it also takes months for the acne to heal fully. If cutting dairy helps and you still want to keep dairy in your diet consume it in moderation or try alternatives like yoghurt. As you know if you are going to remove milk, you are losing out on that calcium so you can also replace dairy with rich sources of calcium like broccoli and leafy greens and sesame seeds.
