You cannot hide dry and chapped lips with even the best of lipsticks. Winter demands special skincare and spending a few minutes of moisturising is definitely better than hours spent in concealing. Drinking lots of water and eating vitamin B rich foods like pineapples, wheat germ, bajra, raisins and almonds will definitely benefit your skin. You can also try these 7 tips to prevent lips from drying this winter.

There is no better way to care for your lips than staying away from chemicals and using natural and edible ingredients, says celebrity naturopath, Dr Nirmala Shetty.

If you want supple and soft lips this winter without investing in expensive products, try this homemade vegetable lip balm:

What you need

  • 2 tsp pumpkin paste
  • 2 tsp coconut cream
  • 1 tsp honey

Recipe:

  • Use raw pumpkin to get the pumpkin paste. Use natural coconut cream and not the coconut milk.
  • Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl. Place the bowl in the freezer for 10 minutes.
  • Apply the chilled lip balm 2-3 times a day for best results.

How it helps?

Pumpkin has high water content and is a rich source of Vitamin A. These properties help keep your skin hydrated and boost skin renewal. Coconut cream locks the moisture in your skin, keeping it hydrated for long hours. Honey is known for its moisturising and soothing properties. It also helps keep infections at bay. These ingredients are the best combination for an all natural remedy for chapped lips.
