5 dermatologist recommended creams for cracked heels

Cracked heels are very common in winter and you might think of treating them at home. But, home remedies for cracked heels like soaking them in salt water or applying turmeric. Dr Sonia Tekchandani, Dermatologist from Tender Skin International recommends creams you can use to make your heels smooth and prevent and treat cracks.

1. Cutimax--Cutimax is made from liquid paraffin and white paraffin. It moisturises the skin and helps in healing the cracks. Apply it every night before going to bed and you should see the changes in your heels in about a week.

2. Emoliz-- Emoliz contains olive oil , glycolic acid and vitamin E. Olive oil acts as a softening agent and glycolic acid removes the dead skin and vitamin E helps in repairing and healing the skin. This cream heals your cracked heels in about a week. Apply it every night before going to bed and also after you bathe.

3. Plain petroleum jelly-- Any petroleum like, say, Vaseline is also very effective in treating cracked heels. Apply a generous amount on your cracked heels every night before going to sleep and wear socks to prevent the petroleum jelly from rubbing off.

4. Boroline-- Boroline contains zinc oxide that helps in healing wounds, boric acid which is an antiseptic and beeswax which helps in retaining moisture in the skin.

5. Shea butter and cocoa butter-- You can also use natural products such as shea butter or cocoa butter to treat cracked heels. Both these products are rich in fatty acids, which make them excellent moisturising agents. They are easily absorbed by the skin and also help in polishing the skin.

Another important thing to remember while treating cracked heels is staying hydrated by drinking enough water.
