Don't restrict bright colours only to your clothes. This summer, coloured eyeliners are back in vogue. Celebrities including Nicole Richie (who matched her mauve hair and eyeshadow on the cover of the May 2014 issue of Paper Magazine) and Lena Dunham (who wore the look to the Met Ball) have been spotted rocking bright-coloured eyeliner. Here's how to replicate the look at home:
Coloured eyeliner and smokey eye
Chloe Morello created this cool and colourful look. To start, prime your skin and apply matte foundation, concealer and primer over your eyelid. Fill in your eyebrows and apply cream matte eyeshadow to your lids. Mix up a vibrant eyeliner using a teal pigment, and apply it using concealer and an angle brush to perfect the line. Add black eyeliner on the water line, work dark eyeshadow into the lashline, followed by a blended-in lighter shade. False eyelashes, blusher and pink lips complete the look. Light with a pop of colour
Blogger Shaaanxo has this cool mix of lighter tones with a turquoise colour. Start with primer and foundation, add concealer and powder and fill in your brows. Apply an eyeshadow base in warm brown on the lids, with brown eyeshadow over the top blended over and into the crease. Add a lighter colour in the inner corner of the eye and under the eyebrow. Draw in a cat's eye with simple winged liquid eyeliner in black. Then move on to a turquoise eyeliner in both liquid and pencil forms. Use the pencil on your waterline, and go above the black eyeliner with the liquid eyeliner. Aqua eyeshadow can add some extra intensity. Complete the look with mascara, false lashes and pink cheeks and lips. (Read: Tips to make your eyes look more beautiful with kajal or kohl)
Coloured eyeliner tips
Beauty expert Brittney Rose has some advice for the coloured eyeliner trend. First, think about complementary colours that will work with your natural skin tone and facial features. Second, avoid any other distracting colours -- i.e. drop the bright lips or cheeks if you want to focus on the eyes. Third, know the right products: for a more subtle look use a pencil on the waterline, but feel free to go bolder with a cream or liquid liner. (Read: Summer beauty trend bright eyeliners)
