You slather sunscreen all over your body and face. Then why skip the lips? Just like your other parts of the body, your lips need protection from the sun. The skin on your lips is thinner and is thus more vulnerable than the rest of your body. Over time, the rays of the sun will affect the collagen production and that will result in thinner lips. Here are tips from dermatologist Dr Sejal Shah that will protect your lips from the sun. Also Read - Is hemp seed oil good for your skin? 5 amazing beauty benefits you should know

  • Whether you are on the beach or driving to office in the morning, make sure that you apply a broad spectrum lip balm. A broad spectrum lip balm would mean that it gives protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Opt for a lip balm with an SPF of at least 15. However, the key is to apply a sunscreen 2-3 times a day. And if you are in a habit of constantly licking your lips, you need to use it more often. These tips will help you choose the right sunscreen for yourself.
  • Many lipsticks also contain SPF so you can consider that. Some lip products also contain antioxidants with SPF to provide extra moisture and protection. Look for a lip product that has a base of beeswax or paraffin as they will help seal the moisture on your skin and stay on your lips for longer.
  • Also, ensure that you avoid high-shine lip gloss and petroleum jelly as they can attract the sun to your lips. Lipstick that is shiny or contains high-gloss can also be harmful to your lips. You can, however, try making this natural lip gloss at home.

And even if you end up with sunburn accidently, here s a simple remedy you can try: You can use some sugar and olive oil to remove the dead skin cells and soften your lips. If your lips do not get better, schedule an appointment with a dermatologist. Also Read - Replace sugar with jaggery to reduce fine lines, wrinkles and age spots
