One of the biggest challenges that Indian women face when it comes to make-up is finding the right lipstick colour or shade. Sadly, many lipstick shades available in India are more suited for fairer skin tones, especially ones in pink shades. I have been on the look out for the right shade for months on end that will go with my wheatish skin colour. Here s how to choose the right shade of lipstick for dark lips.
I happened to come across Fran Wilson s Mood Matcher lipstick while browsing online for cosmetics and I was curious to see how it works. You can order this online from major beauty websites and it will cost you around Rs 590. The lipstick comes in 12 different colours ranging from black, yellow, green, orange, blue, violet and brown, among others.
At first, when my black Mood Matcher lipstick arrived, I actually thought it was a black lipstick. However, what makes this lipstick unique is that though it comes in these wacky colours, it claims to change its colour according to your mood. Other than that, it also claims to be smudge, kiss and fade proof along with moisturising your lips. Like most major lipstick brands, this one also claims to last for 12 hours. The Trial
I was eager to put this lipstick, that makes such tall claims, to test. At first after applying it, it looked like I had used a regular lip balm but after a few seconds, the colour started darkening drastically. The end result was an extremely dark and bright shade of red the first time and the second time it was dark pink. To be honest, it was a bit too bright for my liking but I decided to continue wearing it for the rest of the day just to see if it is as long-lasting as it claims to be.
My Review
After the first 15-30 minutes of applying the Mood Matcher lipstick, I was disappointed to see that it started getting smudged. I actually had to use a damp napkin to stop it from smudging any further. Here are tricks to make your lipstick last longer. After almost 4 hours of wearing the lipstick, it slowly started fading, so don t be fooled, you will need re-touches in between. Another thing I disliked about the lipstick is that it left my lips feeling dry after a few hours. So I would suggest keeping a lip balm handy for touch-ups.
So would I buy this product again? It is a great novelty concept that you would want to try out of sheer curiosity. I have only used the black lipstick so far, so I can t comment on the other shades. Since it is cheaper than other lipsticks available, I wouldn t mind investing in another shade just to see if it suits me or not. Just don t fall for smudge-proof and fade-proof promise and don t be overly disappointed if the lipstick shade is too bright!
