If you have very thin and frizzy, wavy or curly hair, maintaining a hairstyle and keeping your hair well groomed can be a real struggle. The heat and high humidity levels only make things worse and for me, no amount of deep conditioning or repeated hair spa treatments seemed to help in controlling the frizz. Here are some DIY tips to tame frizzy hair.

I was desperately looking for a hairspray or mousse that could add some much-needed volume to my thin hair and also control the frizz. After doing some research online, I found that many women recommended using Bedhead s massive shine hairspray by Tigi.

Product claim

The product claims that it can add some body and shine to your hair while resisting humidity and also guard your hair against dryness. The best part was, this hairspray claimed to be able to hold any hairstyle. I had got a haircut recently and was curious to see whether it will live up to those claims. Bedhead products are not easily available in India and are sold only in a few high-end beauty stores in major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore. You can find Bedhead s hairspray online but the products are on the expensive side. A 300 ml can of this hairspray will cost you close to Rs. 1000 after shipping. Despite the high price, I decided to give it a try out of sheer desperation to make my hair look better.

The Trial

The hairspray is a big cylindrical blue can and it is fairly easy to use and a 300 ml will last for at least six months. Though it is expensive, it is more of an investment you make on your hair every once in a while. Soon after application, I was disappointed to see that my hair felt stiff and even a little sticky after running my fingers through my hair. I tried combing my hair in the hope that the stiffness would reduce, but it was of no help. I didn't want to write off the hairspray based on my first experience, so I continued using it for an entire week to see how it suits my hair type. Here s a frizzy hair hack minus hair products.

My Review

I decided that the only way to put Bedhead's hairspray to test was to see how it fared in Mumbai's weather. As soon as I stepped outside my house and was exposed to the humidity, I noticed the spray did little to prevent flyaways or my baby hairs from sticking out. All in all, a very disappointing experience because it also left my hair feeling stiff and looking slightly greasy. This hairspray might work for different hair types and my suggestion would be to use very little of the product and blow dry your hair for the desired effect. Despite blow-drying, I felt my hair looked extremely dry and limp after a few hours. I have now stopped using the hairspray as it obviously doesn't suit my hair. Here are ways to tame frizzy and dry hair naturally.

My rating: 2/5
