From ombre to denim hair or multi-coloured streaks, the list of hair colouring techniques is endless. Here s a hair colouring technique that has been popular for some time now Balayage. Celebrity Hair Expert Niell Talwar from Star Salons, Delhi shares some insights on this technique:

The word simply means to paint in French. Balayage is free hand colouring technique to create free flowing Colorado patterns. It's non geometric, hence looks natural. Colour is dark at roots, fading into light shades towards ends. The technique is customized and is different for each person. Applying this hair colour does not involve use of foil of any other special technique. It is a free-hand art. It takes about 3-4 hours to complete the entire process. Also, the results differ each time as there is no set pattern or design that is followed. The aim is to give a natural look to the hair. The final look can be different on two clients even though the same technique is used by the same stylist. Root touch-ups may be required after 4-6 weeks but the overall effect lasts for 3-4 months. Who is it for?

This technique gives a natural effect to your hair and hence suits all skin shades and hair types. However, it may not give the desired hair on extremely short or cropped hair. Lighter colours will look better on dark hair and vice versa.
