Pimples under the surface of the skin especially when it is on the chin or the sides of the nose can be downright painful as well as annoying. Getting the pimple to the surface can reduce the pain as well as the irritation. But while a pimple takes forever to get to the surface, you can try a few tricks to get it to the head. Here are a few tips from dermatologist Dr. Sejal Shah.

Tea bag compress: The best thing to do is to just apply a warm tea bag compress. Warm tea bags will not only help the pimple get to the surface but the tannins particularly in black tea can reduce all the inflammation and redness.

Apply hydrocortisone cream: Another thing you can do is just dab hydrocortisone cream on the infected area and then cover the area with a band-aid. This can help reduce the inflammation and get the pimple to the head.

Squeeze the pimple with a tissue: And if your whitehead has reached the surface and if you must pop it, do this. Wrap tissues around your fingers and squeeze the pimple instead of popping it. Popping the pimple can push the bacteria deeper into the skin. Once you have extracted the pimple, make sure that you do not touch the area and treat it with an antibacterial cream or some medicated pimple spot treatment. Here's why you should not pop pimples.

Go to the doctor: If the pimple just does not come to the surface even after all your attempts it is best that you consult your doctor. A cortisone spot treatment may just help you.

Protip-- Don t pick the scab once it forms. The crust forms to help regenerate the skin beneath it and speed up the healing process. Picking the scab may leave behind a scar that won t go away quickly. Banish pimples with these 6 home remedies from your kitchen.
