Acne product review: L’Oreal Go 360 Anti-Breakout Facial Cleanser

The summer is upon us! After enjoying some respite from zits in the cooler winter months, we are back to square one in the sweltering May. I live in Mumbai which is apart from being terribly hot in the summers also has the reputation of messing with the skin, thanks to all the humidity. Apart from this, keeping the face clean becomes frustratingly difficult. Because no matter what face wash I use, my skin goes back to being sticky and oily barely half an hour after washing. That s why I am always on the lookout for the perfect cleanser, but my quest never ends. This is a review of my recent find, L Oreal Go 360 Anti-Breakout Facial Cleanser. The cleanser is one among L Oreal range of face washes in the 360 category that comes with its own little scrublet to scrub your face clean. Priced at Rs 399, it comes in an orange flip top bottle uniquely shaped with a hole in the centre. The hold is meant to hold the flexible, rubber scrublet in place. The product has 2% salicylic acid to unclog blocked pores; ER195 LHA to exfoliate dead cells; menthol to cool the skin.

Other ingredients include: Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Decyl Glucoside, Glycerin, Coco Betaine, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Extract (Peppermint), PEG 150 Pentaerythrityl Tetrastearate, Zinc Gluconate, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Hydroxide, Capryloyl Salicylic Acid (Beta Hydroxy Acid), Tetrasodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Pentasodium Ethylenediamine Tetramethylene Phosphonate, Menthol, Polyquaternium 47, Fragrance

Directions for use

There are three ways in which you could use the cleanser:

1. Take a pea sized amount on your palms after you wet your face and lather it with your fingers. Apply all over the face. Immediately, you will feel a tingling sensation. That is the menthol at work. Once it is sufficiently lathered, use the scrublet to scrub your skin. If you have sensitive or inflamed skin, give the scrublet a miss.

2. Pour a small amount of the face wash onto the scrublet, and apply directly to the face. Scrub as you normally would.

Review

To be honest, if the bacterium has made up its mind to colonise your skin and wreck havoc in it, there is little that the cleanser can do. I have exhausted an entire bottle, and I see no difference in the number of breakouts I get. But I console myself saying that face wash does a good job of cleaning the skin. Plus the menthol feels great! Also, it maybe a little steeply priced, but it lasts forever. A small amount produces enough lather to leave your skin squeaky clean.

But the greatest thing about the cleanser is the little rubber scrublet. It is flexible, gentle on your skin and very easy to clean. Even if you are not happy with the product, you could always keep the scrublet and pair it with some other facial cleanser.
